In the fall of 2018, I visited Assisi, Italy. San Damiano chapel is a brief stroll outside the city walls. It is where St Clare and her Sisters lived, and where St. Francis began to “rebuild my Church", as he heard God tell him nearly 800 years ago.
A few months after returning, as I was lighting the first Advent candle of the season, this poem came out:
humble little church,
that clings to mount subasio,
among the olive groves.
Clare and her sisters immersed in peace and joy,
and Francis their brother,
giving up their self,
and gaining the peace of God.
Thank you San Damiano
for reminding us of,
the Crib and the Cross.
